American Soldiers
By Tommy Franks
We are American soldiers…the warfighters.
We preserve peace on earth and good will toward men.We are combat trained and ready to fight again and again!
Do we love our country and the Red, White, and Blue?
Are we proud to serve when called upon to subdue? As American soldiers, we do not cotton to flag burners!
We are American warfighters who are combat learners.
We know that our country needs us during any time of caution and review.
We breathe…we eat…we sleep…we fight…we love our nation.
We are American fighting men and women who have a firm foundation.Sometimes, we are called upon to fight a war in a far away land.
Is freedom really worth it for people who do not understand?
We all know the answer is an emphatic “Yes” and “Amen”.
As American soldiers, we have a calling to be peacemakers on earth.
We have traveled from country to country and have seen a lot of dearth…
But we have also seen men and women and children of great worth!
We have watched our fellow warfighters breathe their last breath… Did we stop and regress?
Did we turn coat and run?
We are American soldiers that leave no job undone! We believe in honor, dignity, and respect…even in death if called upon. We have to believe that our country needs us today.
We are American Soldiers who meditate and pray! We have faith and believe in the Commander-in-Chief of the Universe always!
Fact 1: Soldiers have always been around from the beginning of time. Abraham was a soldier. When Abram's nephew (Lot) who taken prisoner with all of his belongings, Abraham…along with 318 soldiers of his household…went to war and rescued Lot and his family (Gen.14).
Fact 2: Moses commanded Joshua to "Call the Israelites to arms, and fight the army of Amalek. So Joshua did what Moses had commanded. He led his men out to fight the army of Amalek. (Ex.17).
Fact 3: Caleb and Joshua were soldiers. “And Caleb stilled the people before Moses, and said, Let us go up at once, and possess it; for we are well able to overcome it” (Nu.13).
Fact 4: David was a soldier. “So the women sang as they danced, and said: "Saul has slain his thousands…And David his ten thousands” (1 Sam.18).
Fact 5: When Jesus arrived in Capernaum, a Roman officer came and pleaded with him, "Lord, my young servant lies in bed, paralyzed and racked with pain." Jesus said, "I will come and heal him." Then the officer said, "Lord, I am not worthy to have you come into my home. Just say the word from where you are, and my servant will be healed! I know, because I am under the authority of my superior officers and I have authority over my soldiers. I only need to say, “Go”, and they go, or “Come,” and they come. If I say, “Do this or that,” they do it." When Jesus heard this, he was amazed. Turning to the crowd, he said, "I tell you the truth, I haven't seen faith like this in all the land of Israel…Then Jesus said to the Roman officer, "Go on home. What you have believed has happened." And the young servant was healed that same hour” (Mt.8).
Fact 6: The New Testament describes soldiers again and again. “In Caesarea there lived a Roman army officer named Cornelius, who was a captain of the Italian Regiment. He was a devout man who feared the God of Israel, as did his entire household. He gave generously to charity and was a man who regularly prayed to God” (Acts 10).
Fact 7: When Paul wrote to Timothy, he said, “My dear son, be strong with the special favor that God gives you in Christ Jesus…Teach these great truths to trustworthy people who are able to pass them on to others. Endure suffering along with me, as a good soldier of Christ Jesus” (2 Tim.2).
Fact 8: Jesus is a Soldier…the Commander-in-Chief of the Universe. “Then I saw heaven opened, and a white horse was standing there. And the one sitting on the horse was named Faithful and True. For He judges fairly and then goes to war. His eyes were bright like flames of fire, and on his head were many crowns. A name was written on him, and only he knew what it meant. He was clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and his title was the Word of God. The armies of heaven, dressed in pure white linen, followed him on white horses. From his mouth came a sharp sword, and with it he struck down the nations. He ruled them with an iron rod, and he trod the winepress of the fierce wrath of almighty God. On his robe and thigh was written this title: King of kings and Lord of lords” (Rev.19).
