Becoming “All We Can Be”
By Tommy Franks
As federal civilians, military personnel, and private citizens within the workplace, we are becoming “all we can be”. We are NOT there yet, but we are well on our way! We are focused. We have common goals. We have a unified Team Spirit. We are well disciplined. Our entire organization is moving forward on the cutting edge of technology. Many will look in awe at what we are doing with our abilities and talents. Many will be amazed at the achievements and discipline that we have achieved.
Discipline, loyalty, patience, camaraderie, esprit de corps, integrity, and high values are being displayed by Americans daily. What we do today will affect our tomorrow. That is why our products and services affect the lives of multitudes of people throughout the world. Your business acumen, good judgment, and professional performance affect thousands. Clearly, you are making history!
Fortunately for us, we are a well oiled, dynamic, and well disciplined workforce that is reaching achievements and results that many people only dream about, but never achieve. We are multicultural in our diversity, people of dignity in our enhanced morale, and individuals of the highest performance in our productivity. We promote a positive attitude in our behaviors and we know that we are becoming “All We Can Be”! YES!
We advocate well defined policies, processes, and procedures that are NOT difficult to use or understand. We believe in true “reward systems” that actually promote desired behaviors and desired results. We believe that “positive feedback” about job performance is a requirement to positive professional relationships. If feedback is NOT given, how in the world does the employee know how he/she stands in the performance arena? Current leaders should consistently demonstrate positive, professional principles that demonstrate consistent interpersonal communication and impeccable behavioral conduct.
Leaders are examples...good or bad! The way that any organization is changed in a positive sense is through the leadership and key personnel. The means and vehicle is through personable communication and interpersonal behaviors that say, “I care. I believe in you. You are important. I want to help you get to your next plateau. You are a person of dignity and extreme worth. I want to help you become ‘all you can be’”.
Once our leaders implement this type of leadership, we will see a “Metamorphosis” take place immediately within our organizational areas. Improvements in personnel relationships will soar! Change will occur. It always does. Unfortunately, change is slow. Once interpersonal and communication behaviors begin to improve, communication systems will be enhanced as well. Hence, we become people of organizational vision, customer sensitivity, and product achievement.
We become noted and recognized as talented individuals of great accomplishments. Let’s face it. When you are the “lead dog”, the scenery is always better out front and you are certainly NOT looking at someone’s backside. Hello! Continue to seize the moment!
