Are People Born Gay? (Parts 1 & 2)

Are People Born Gay? (Part 1)

If a person is born gay, is being gay wrong? Can a person be born gay and not be accountable and responsible for his/her actions?

First, we are asking the wrong questions? What does the Bible say?

Second, it does not matter one way or the other…the way a person is born or not born. That is immaterial. Some would say that if a person is born gay, then his lifestyle is normal for him and cannot be wrong. Not true!

Third, what is normal? Everyday across the globe, unfortunately…little babies are born deformed, mentally challenged, stillborn, and premature with lung or heart problems. Does this make their lifestyles normal? No! Medical Science has established the physical and mental standard for “normal” healthy children. Being born with missing legs or arms or other deformities is not normal.

Does this make them any less human beings or less valuable in the eyes of God? No! But, this is not normal. “Being born gay” does not make it normal. We must measure it against a “Standard” of some type…I believe the Standard is the Word of God. “Being born gay” does not make being homosexual right. Being born selfish does not make selfishness right. Being born with a quick and fiery temper does not make “having a bad temper” right. Being born a liar does not make lying right. Are you getting my drift? All of these traits are “sin” according to the Bible. All parents who have raised children know that children are born selfish. This is a natural and inevitable character trait. It does not have to be taught or demonstrated. It just is.

So, what does the Word say? As humans, we are born with a nature of sinfulness. This is manifested and proven by our human behavior. As children, we were taught not to hit, bite, kick, fight, bicker, lie, or disobey. Did we do these things? Yes. Why? Because of our sinful nature. The Bible says, “For fornicators, for homosexuals, for kidnappers, for liars, for perjurers, and if there is any other thing that is contrary to sound doctrine” (1 Tim.1:10, NKJV).

“Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you. But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God” (1 Cor.6:9-11).

The Bible lists drunkenness as sinful. The Bible lists adultery as sinful. The Bible lists idolatry (worship of idols) as sinful. The Bible lists homosexuality as sinful. I think the Bible is pretty clear on these matters. It should be abundantly clear that individuals who practice these sins are living in sin. Some will not believe. Some will twist the Word. Some will distort it. Some will explain it away. Some will misinterpret God's Word to suit their agenda. The Bible condemns homosexuality as an act of sinful nature. It also condemns lying, stealing, gossiping, gluttony, adultery, and a multitude of other sins.

Some Bible scholars believe that being gay is demonic (influenced by demons or evil spirits).
Personally, I believe that all sin is influenced by Satan, his cohorts, and/or our sinful nature. The job of Satan and his angels is to tempt everyone. Even Christ was tempted while on this earth. In the absence of satanic influence, there is peace and tranquility. (Part 2 will follow.)

Are People Born Gay? (Part 2, Conclusion)

Can a person be born gay? Some will say yes. Some will say no. It just does not matter. The Bible says that it is a sin…regardless of how or why it is manifested practiced, or consummated. It does not matter how we are born…perfect, innocent, sinful, selfish, homosexual, sexual deviant, or angelic. What we believe about the nature of humans at birth is immaterial. Our choice of actions, decisions, and behavior throughout our lives is what matters. When we do something that God has declared to be sinful, we have sinned and are in need of God's forgiveness, grace, and mercy…or we face His judgment. Period!

Some will say that individuals are born with a gay gene or an adultery gene or alcoholic gene or thief gene or gossip gene or gluttony gene. It does not matter if you have felt gay since you were a child. It does not matter if you have lusted since childhood. It does not matter if you were born with a bad temper or born selfish. Every sin listed in the Bible is a result of our sinful nature. All men and women are predisposed to sinfulness. We are all born with a tendency toward some kind of sin. That is why Christ died…to forgive us when we repent and acknowledge Him.

“Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due” (Rom.1:27, NKJV).

Simply saying, "I was born this way; therefore, I cannot help it…therefore it cannot be wrong…therefore a loving God cannot condemn me" makes no sense whatsoever …especially, when it comes to rape, stealing, murder, adultery, pedophilia, or bank robbery. Tell it to a judge and see what he says.

Some people will say that they feel compelled to behave the way they do. They feel an uncontrollable urge to commit certain sins. Does this type of thinking or feeling make it okay? Give me a break. No!

Some will say that comparing gays to murderers is pretty extreme. Yes, you are right. Let us compare homosexuality to one of the lesser sins like lying, cheating, stealing, gossip, or unkindness. Tell me something. Does God recognize and excuse little sins versus big sins? No. Sin is sin regardless of how small or large. One sin makes us sinners. We were born into sin. Sin is anything that God says is wrong and He unmistakably says homosexuality is a sin. Therefore, it does not matter how we dress it up, modernize it, and say it's not as bad as some other sin.

We know that being born a killer is wrong when people claim it as a defense. We know that murder is wrong no matter what people claim. Yet, when it comes to this same principle on the subject of homosexuality, we ignore it. God’s Word does not work that way. Nowhere in the Word does it say that homosexuality is okay because “I was born this way”. It is not okay anymore than a person who claims he is born to steal, kill, drink to intoxication, or born to abuse children is okay.

Hence, can a person be born gay? Does it matter one way or the other? Whatever God declares as wrong…is wrong…and will always be wrong. AMEN!
