You are the same person today that you were ten years except...
By Tommy Franks
You are the same person today that you were ten years ago with the exception of two things…the books that you have read and the people that you have met. Hopefully, one of those books is the Bible and one of the people…Jesus Christ.
The reality is…Some people have not read a new book in 25 years…Others perhaps in 10 years. This is a tragedy. These same people will watch TV for 4 or 5 hours a day without batting an eye, but when it comes to reading a good book (spiritual, motivational, or even a good novel), the majority of people just do not like to read books. These same people will buy a newspaper and read it from front to back…even the comics and attached magazines. But please don’t ask them to read a book. Books are an excellent source of growth for our lives. Unless you read good wholesome books from time to time, your life will not change much at all.
If you do not like to read, at least listen to some good books on tape. You can get hundreds of good books on tape at any reputable library in the country. Invest the time in yourself to do this.
I said earlier, you are the same person today that you were ten years ago with the exception of two things…the books that you have read and the people that you have met. So, what about people that you have met in the past ten years? Have they influenced your life? Yes. For good or bad? You will have to answer that question.
We all need to meet people who can mentor us or teach us greater things than we now know. This is how we grow.
Hopefully, one of the books that you have read is the Bible. And one of the people that you have met is Jesus Christ. Books are good; however, the greatest stories that have ever been told are found in the Bible. Some of the greatest characters that have ever lived are found in the Bible…including Jesus Christ.
Finally, let me end this article with this:
Ten years from now, you will be same person that you are today with the exception of two things…the books that you have read and the people that have met. Period!
No exceptions!
