Current World Events (Part 2, Oct 2006)

Current World Events (Part 2, Oct 2006)
By Tommy Franks

Current Event #4: As Christians, we also know that many opinions of the Supreme Court and laws of our Congress are immoral and evil. The general public (to include some Christians) continue to vote for and elect ungodly, immoral politicians… especially if it affects some pocketbooks. Read on…

Do you know how many lobbyists are in Washington DC, especially in the area of “K” Street? There are 6994 full time lobbyists (69 lobbyists for each Senator and 16 per US Representative). Do you know what the average salary (including bonuses and benefits) of a lobbyist is today? It is $126, 594 per year plus a fat expense account to spend on Senators and Representatives…365 days per year.

What does a lobbyist do? He/she contacts members of Congress and other elected officials to persuade them to support legislation favorable to their clients' interests.
In the process, the Congressperson is wined, dined, and coddled incessantly.

After about six months of being over indulged and pampered by a lobbyist, some members of Congress are ready to play the greed game. Their thinking becomes cloudy and sometimes greed overtakes their good sense. Avarice is immoral, just as the love of money is the root of all evil. In a number of cases, immoral philosophies set in and corrupt the true values of some of these elected “lawmakers”. They are NOT bad people…but the temptation is greater than their moral defenses. I am not condoning this type of behavior. At the end of the day, we all must give an account of our actions to God. I have made a lot of mistakes in my lifetime and so have you!

Another question: Do you know how many actual days each Senator will work in 2006? Answer: Less than 2 days per week. With the current schedule and Senate Calendar, the Senate will be in session for only 100 days for the entire year…come 31 Dec 2006. The nickname that has been given to the current Congress is “Do nothing Congress”. You be the judge. When was the last time they passed a bill that has helped the average American? Read on…

However, I do have some Good News. I just saved a bundle on my car insurance! (I’m kidding. I’m kidding). Where is your sense of humor?

Today, the average American is sick and tired of the evil philosophies of the 60s, 70s, and the 80s…that have corrupted our great land. God is on the horizon of raising up some Joshua’s and Caleb’s who do not give a “hoot” about political correctness!

The real Good News is the GOSPEL! God has His hand on this nation regardless of the moral failures of a few men and women. God still has a terrific plan for America. He is not through with America! God will always have dedicated and faithful people to carry out His will.

Current Event #5: I personally believe that we are due for a spiritual renewal greater than any in the history of our country. This Work will be a powerful work of the Holy Spirit. I believe that we will see many Liberals repent. Why? Because their liberal philosophy is NOT working.
· Isaiah and Micah prophesied that “in the last days people from all nations will flood into the Kingdom of God” (Isa. 2:2, Micah 4:1, Daniel 12:3, Eph. 4:11-16).
· God’s Word will not fail as He watches over it to perform it.
· Say what you want to about George W. Bush; but I can tell you this…he is very vocal about his Christianity. He makes no apology for being a Christian. Nor has he ever attempted to hide or camouflage his Christianity. He prays and reads his Bible. He believes that he is on a divine assignment to end international terrorism.
o The world hates George Bush. They also hated Christ and nailed him to the cross. Satan hates him. The godless hate him. Most Liberals hate him. The various factions of terrorism hate him. President Bush is not a favorite among world leaders or members of the U.N. He is not a favorite among the liberals or the Environmentalists (which I think are out of control). Of course the feminist organizations also dislike President Bush.
o Jesus said, “Woe to you when all men speak well of you, for so did their fathers to the false prophets” (Lk.6:26).
· It never ceases to amaze me how the environmental crowd insists on saving owls, frogs, insects, spiders, and whales at the expense of human beings. Yet, this crowd has no scruples when it comes to murdering unborn babies.
· So who does like George Walker Bush? Personally, I believe that many God-fearing Americans do. Many patriotic Americans like him. Many military service members like him. I like him. Christians support and pray for him. Is he perfect? Of course not! But he is the President of the greatest nation on Planet Earth! Since 30 Apr 1789, when George Washington took the oath of office, we have only had 43 Presidents. I think George Bush is in pretty good company with such men as Abraham Lincoln, FDR, Harry S. Truman, John Kennedy, Teddy Roosevelt, Ronald Reagan, etc (42 previous Presidents). What can we do? Pray!

Current Event #6: Once upon a time, the fear of God was so widespread…that even the unrighteous were somewhat restricted. Everyone (godly and ungodly) had an awareness of God and knew that someday they would be judged by Him. Such Biblical truth was well known among Americans. What happened? What happened to the “fear of the Lord”? Where is it today?
· Answer: The preaching of “Hellfire and Brimstone” has ceased. The clergy used to preach on sin and its eternal results. They were the favorite subjects of preachers during the 1800’s…up until about 1950.
· Charles Spurgeon (1834-1892)…one of the greatest British preachers of all time… joined the Baptist Church in 1850. His rich, clear voice and command of language drew huge crowds. He possessed strict and narrow religious ideas…which sometimes alienated others. The Metropolitan Tabernacle (6,000 seat capacity) was built for his huge audiences. On several occasions, he preached on “Hellfire and Brimstone”. The people got scared and repented.
· I am not saying that we need a steady diet of this type of preaching, but I do think that messages of this caliber bring men and women back to reality in realizing that “Hell” is a very real place…and a place to be avoided at all cost.
· Presently such messages are unpopular and seldom heard. Consequently, there is no fear of God among the sinful and little to be found sometimes even among Christians. Some Christians today do not even believe in hell. However, most do believe in “Heaven”.
· We must not lose sight of Biblical Truth. Hell is real. It is a fiery, tormenting place. Jesus described “hell” in Luke 16:23. God sends no one to Hell. Man sends himself to hell. God works through the Holy Spirit to convict and bring mankind to repentance. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. Without such godly fear…one lacks the wisdom necessary for abundant life. Therefore, people make choices that send themselves to hell.
· If ever there existed a generation that needs a good dose of “Hellfire and Brimstone” preaching, it is now.
· “Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; Who put darkness for light, and light for darkness; Who put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter! Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight” (Isa. 5:20-21).
· This very elegantly describes our present generation. To be politically correct is to be without the fear of God…without wisdom and too often in Satan’s camp.
