The Incredible Secret from a Biblical Perspective (Part 1)
By Tommy Franks
Many of you have read “The Secret” by Rhonda Byrne. It is a great book if you eat the chicken and spit out the bones. A lot of the content is “New Age” thinking; however, I appreciate her views on the topic of being positive and thinking positive thoughts. However, I want to write this article from the Biblical perspective because the “Bible” is the Standard for all Biblical principles, eternal values, and canonized doctrine.
“For as (a man) thinks in his heart, so is he” (Pr.23:7). Whatever you think upon, you become or attract to you. Some call this the “Law of Attraction”. If you think about something long enough while in full belief that it will happen, the laws of God will act on your behalf to bring it into your possession as you act on your thoughts, ideas, and dreams. Read on…
“For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks” (Mt.12:34). If your heart is full of good things…things that are true, honest, just, pure, lovely, and of a good report…As you think on these things, they will happen for you. If you think on negative things, negative things will happen in your life. The converse is true if you think positively.
“If you believe…you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer” (Mt.21:22). These are words of the Master Teacher Jesus Christ. His Word is eternal and absolute. Conceive it. Believe it. Receive it. No, this is not magic stuff. God’s Word is inspired and works in conjunction with the laws of the universe.
“I tell you the truth, if anyone…does not doubt in his heart but believes that what he says will happen, it will be done for him. Therefore… whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours” (Mk.11:23-24). These are red letter words in the New Testament…the Words of Christ.
At this point, I want to talk about one of the discoveries of Quantum Physics (QP). Our thoughts and actions create our reality and destiny. QP has also revealed that it is the thoughts of our subconscious mind that is creating our life experiences. As creations of God, we live in a continuous playing field of infinite possibilities. These opportunities are waiting for us to decide what we want to create or “make happen” in our lives. According to QP, our subconscious mind is deciding for us about 85% of the time because most of our thoughts are coming from our subconscious mind…not our conscious mind. Our subconscious mind is normally running the show in our lives most of the time.
QP studies have shown that our subconscious mind is 30,000 times more powerful than our conscious mind. The wonderful truth is: The subconscious mind and conscious mind are actually our servants…serving us in an attempt to assist us in focusing on what we want in life. Our subconscious mind actually creates exactly what we think about…no exceptions (good or bad).
Someone once said, “When the student is ready…the teacher will come.” I believe that our thoughts actually create the reality around us. Our thoughts are alive and full of energy. If acted upon, our thoughts become real. As Christians, we serve the Creator…God Almighty. With His help, we become creative in our thinking. Soon, our thoughts become reality. We have what we think and what we say. We NEVER rise above our confession. It is impossible. In our conscious mind, QP has discovered that the smallest unit of consciousness is stored in a cell as a unit of memory or thought. What does this mean? Every thought that we have ever had…every thing that we have ever seen…everything that we have ever heard…every experience we have ever had is actually stored in our memory as living cells. This is deep stuff man! Not only do we have our own thoughts stored in our memory cells, but we have also inherited certain thoughts from our ancestors through our DNA… because the same was true for them.
Our thoughts are living things and living energy. We are motivated to do certain things…or not…based upon the memory of our experiences. As a child, I touched a hot iron one time. It only happened once because the memory of that pain gave me an experience that I did not want to repeat. The memory of this experience created an impact on my future behavior.
Now, let us dig deeper into the “Law of Attraction”. “As (a man) thinks in his heart, so is he.” Our thoughts attract what we think about. With God’s grace and help, we create our own reality. We attract various things in our lives…money, relationships, employment…wealth, etc. We attract what we focus on. Some people sit around confessing or making all kinds of affirmations…while all the time thinking negative thoughts or having negative feelings. Affirmations are good providing our thoughts and feelings are in agreement and aligned with our declarations. For example, if I want more friends or more money in my life, my thoughts and words must focus on more friends and more money. As this happens, the Law of Attraction begins to create that experience. Never focus on what you don’t have. Always focus and meditate on what you do have. Be thankful. Have an attitude of gratitude. Think big. See yourself receiving what you have asked for. “What things soever you desire, when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you shall have them” (Mk.11). Furthermore, just wanting something is not going to bring it to us. We must think positive thoughts about it…believe that it will happen…verbalize it (say it)…and then get ready to receive it. DO NOT get involved with the “how” it will happen. That is not your business or responsibility. That is God’s business. He knows how it will happen. Have faith that He knows how to do His job…and let Him do it. (Part 2 will follow.)
